Ticks are small arachnids that attach themselves to the skin of animals and feed on their blood. They can transmit diseases to both dogs and humans, such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and babesiosis. Symptoms of tick-borne diseases in dogs can include fever, joint pain, lethargy, and loss of appetite.

Fleas are small insects that also feed on the blood of animals. They can cause skin irritation and allergies, and can also transmit diseases such as tapeworms. Symptoms of flea infestations in dogs can include excessive scratching, hair loss, and red or irritated skin.

Prevention and treatment for both ticks and fleas include regularly checking your dog's skin for signs of infestation, using preventive medication prescribed by your veterinarian, and keeping your dog's environment clean and well-maintained. Your veterinarian can also recommend treatments for tick and flea infestations if they occur.
