]]>To avoid any accidents, always make sure to dry off
Be sure to give your dog a good scrub off after it comes in from the cold and wipe its paws and stomach clean. Rock salt, antifreeze, and other potentially harmful compounds may be stuck to their paws and could cause serious gastrointestinal issues if swallowed. Particular attention should be paid to antifreeze because of the risk it poses to kidney health. Additionally, it is necessary to examine and treat paw pads since they may get wounded from snowy roads or hardened ice.
Prevent Frostbite in Your Pet
Your pet's paws need special protection from the cold because they are the only portion of their body that aren't covered with fur. If your pet is wiping their paws on their coat after walking on snow or ice, it's too chilly for them to be outside. It's time to get indoors and cozy up in front of the fireplace or in a heated bed when your dog feels too cold outside.
Don’t shave your dog's coat
Never shave your dog's coat down in the winter unless absolutely necessary. When it's really cold outside, their long, thick jackets are a lifesaver. Get your short-haired dog a dog jacket online that goes all the way down to the belly if you live in a cold climate.
Maintain a toasty bed
Keep your dog off the cold floor and out of any drafts by providing a warm, comfortable sleeping spot. The next best thing to having your dog lie in bed with you is a comfy pet bed with a nice blanket or pillow.
Beware of Hypothermia Symptoms
If you live in an area where the temperature drops, it's important to know how to spot the symptoms of hypothermia in your dog and how to swiftly treat them. Warm comforters and warm liquids like chicken broth will help restore your pet's normal body temperature if it has dropped slightly. However, pets can easily become incapacitated or even die from exposure to extremely cold temperatures. Potty breaks should be brief, and your dog should always wear a sweater or a jacket. You can buy vests for dog online to keep warm.
Put a leash on near water bodies
Dogs who are naturally inquisitive might run into a lot of trouble when they venture out onto icy surfaces. This kind of tragedy can be avoided if you always keep your pet on a leash when you go on walks near water sources. If your pool freezes over, keep it well-enclosed, and keep a tight eye on pets in the yard.
Leash Your Pet Closely and Always
During a snowfall, it is extremely dangerous to leave your dog off leash on the snow and ice since it is easy for them to lose their sense of smell and get lost. Keep your dog's identifying tags on at all times, but especially in the winter when many more pets go missing. A microchip is a useful piece of equipment that should be installed in every pet's body.
Remove Waste
It's important to quickly wipe up any antifreeze or winter windshield fluid that could have been spilled. The pleasant liquid is deadly, but it attracts pets, especially cats. Domesticated and wild animals alike face serious health risks if they consume antifreeze. Propylene glycol is preferable than ethylene glycol, so choose for items that include it if you can.
Moisturize your pet frequently this winter to prevent dry skin.
It's not just us humans that suffer from dry skin in the winter; dogs can experience the same problem when they're stuck inside while the weather outside is cold. Taking care of dry skin is a breeze, thankfully.
Bathing your pet isn't necessary very often, but when you do, a soothing oatmeal shampoo might help relieve the itching. In addition to a fatty acid supplement recommended by your veterinarian, you can also try rubbing coconut oil into your dog's fur. In addition, it is simple to boost the humidity in the entire house by using a humidifier.

]]>As pet owners, we all want to ensure that our furry friends are healthy, happy and well-groomed. One important aspect of pet grooming is choosing the right shampoo and conditioner for your dog. This is not just a matter of aesthetics, but also a matter of maintaining your dog's overall health and well-being.
When it comes to choosing a shampoo and conditioner for your dog, there are several factors to consider. Firstly, you should always choose a product that is specifically designed for dogs and not for humans. Dog skin is different from human skin and requires different pH levels and ingredients. Using human shampoo on your dog can cause irritation and dryness.
Another important factor to consider is the type of coat your dog has. Different breeds of dogs have different types of coats, such as short, long, curly, or straight. It is important to choose a shampoo and conditioner that is formulated for your dog's specific coat type. For example, if your dog has a long coat, you should choose a product that will help detangle and reduce matting.
You should also pay attention to the ingredients in the shampoo and conditioner. It is best to choose a product that is made with natural, non-toxic ingredients. Avoid products that contain harsh chemicals, such as parabens, sulfates, and artificial fragrances. These chemicals can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions.
When it comes to buying dog shampoo and conditioner in India, there are several reputable brands to choose from. One of the most popular brands is Bio-groom. This brand offers a wide range of shampoos and conditioners that are specifically formulated for different coat types and skin conditions. Another popular brand is Chris Christensen, which offers high-quality, professional grooming products. Nootie and Earth Bath are also known for their natural ingredients and safe for dogs grooming products.
In conclusion, choosing the right shampoo and conditioner for your dog is important for maintaining their overall health and well-being. Always choose a product that is specifically designed for dogs, formulated for your dog's specific coat type, and made with natural, non-toxic ingredients. You can find a wide range of dog grooming products from reputable brands such as Bio-groom, Chris Christensen, Nootie and Earth Bath here
Remember that a well-groomed dog is not just a happy dog but also a healthy dog.

Many supporters of animal rights prefer dog harnesses because they protect your dog's throat first and foremost. Wearing a dog harness can also help to relax the cervical spine and neck muscles. The dog may move freely without placing strain on the neck if the harness fits correctly.
The Benefits of Using a Harness
The harness provides several advantages to your dog that the collar does not. Here are some benefits of utilizing a harness to help you understand:
Harnesses have drawbacks as well
However, the harness has several drawbacks. The harness straps frequently wrap the chest far too near to the front legs, limiting shoulder blade motion. Harnesses that cover a substantial portion of the dog's shoulder blade should be avoided in general since they drastically limit the dog's freedom of movement. It's especially aggravating when the dishes scrape against your four-legged pal, causing him to twist his elbows outwards. The movement sequence is severely interrupted, with potentially long-term repercussions.
As a result, before utilizing a harness, be certain that it fits properly. If the harness is not close enough to the dog's body and slaps about wildly, it is just as annoying. Because it must be carefully crafted and fit perfectly, a harness requires a lot more responsibility from the dog owner. This is especially crucial because it may be inconvenient and even dangerous when unconstrained.
How to Choose the Best Dog Harness
When purchasing, make certain that the dishes match the following criteria:
Tip: Choose an H-shaped Harness. This is the "traditional" harness that everyone is accustomed to. It is an excellent initial pick if you are unclear about yourself or what is best for your pet. However, you must be very careful while adjusting this harness since it might fall off if the animal pulls hard.
What are the Collar's Risks?
Wearing the collar is dangerous to your dog. Each shock or strain is conveyed to the body of the dog. Humans understand that it only takes a "whiplash" to cause pain. It's the same with the dog. A collar, like ourselves, destroys important organs in the neck and produces discomfort.
Headache, back, and neck muscle pain, reduced mobility, difficulty eating and drinking, changes in metabolism, cough, stomach and intestinal problems, changes in heart level, thyroid disorders, negative effects on the lymphatic system, blood circulation, increased stress levels, eye problems, trachea damage are all possible side effects of the collar.
According to a Swedish study, 63% of the dogs in the study experienced back issues. 91% of these dogs pulled excessively or had leash shots. According to comparable Norwegian research, 75% of the 350 dogs evaluated had neck abnormalities that their owners were unaware of.
The Collar's Benefits
A collar is not inherently harmful, but it should be used with caution. As is frequently the case, common sense is the greatest counsel in this situation: The collar should not be subjected to excessive or long-term forces; if your fur nose is always on the leash, a harness is unquestionably the best option.
A collar can be much more pleasant and less bothersome for the dog if the dog is strolling lightly on the leash. It is critical that the dog learns to lead and is not accustomed to yanking on the leash. As long as your four-legged buddy understands this, there is often nothing wrong with wearing a collar.
Conclusion
You should have both available for your buddy, and your dog should be used to wearing both a collar and a harness. The application then relies on the context and sometimes even the mood. A neck injury can commonly prevent the use of a collar, and a chest or back injury might make the use of a harness difficult. In such instances, it is preferable if your four-legged pet feels comfortable with both options. If you still haven't made a decision and want to buy dog collars, dog collar chains, or dog body harnesses, visit our store in Jaipur. Now you can even buy dog collars online at your convenience through our service. We are considered one of the best dog sellers in Jaipur.
]]>Dehydration is a common and potentially fatal condition in dogs. It is caused by a lack of water and electrolytes, as well as a loss of fluid. It necessitates immediate veterinary care. Dehydration, if left untreated, can cause serious organ damage and even death.
If you suspect your dog is dehydrated, contact your veterinarian or, if it is after hours, your nearest Vets Now immediately for assistance.
If dogs do not eat or drink enough, they are at risk of dehydration. Your dog may refuse to drink for a variety of reasons, including:
However, if they are suffering from the aforementioned internal problems, drinking more is usually insufficient to compensate for the large volume of fluid they are losing. If your dog's urination or drinking habits change, you must seek veterinary care immediately.
Dehydration symptoms in dogs include:
To see if your dog is dehydrated, pinch a small area of skin on their back or the top of their head with your thumb and forefinger. When you release the skin, it should spring back if it is well hydrated. As the skin loses moisture, it returns to its original position more slowly. It does not recover at all in the most severe cases of dehydration.
A 'skin tent' is a reduction in the elasticity of your pet's skin. Emaciated or obese animals frequently have a mild 'skin tent'. This does not always imply that they are dehydrated. This can be difficult to assess in older animals, those with thick or long-haired coats, or breeds with thick or long-haired coats.
If your vet suspects your dog is dehydrated, they will most likely perform a full head-to-toe examination. The goal is to determine the severity of the dehydration and the potential cause. The cause could be obvious, such as a stomach ache or heat stroke. In other cases, you may simply have the impression that your pet isn't quite right. Your veterinarian will almost certainly recommend some tests, such as blood tests, x-rays, and ultrasound scans.
A blood sample is a quick and easy way to determine the severity of your pet's dehydration, as well as to determine the cause and the appropriate treatment. The blood is usually drawn from a vein in one of your pet's front legs or the jugular vein, a large vein in their neck.
A small patch of fur is commonly clipped to assist the vet in locating the vein. If the sample is taken from the leg, a small bandage is usually applied to prevent further bleeding. This bandage is usually removed within a few hours.
The most effective way to treat dehydration in pets is to put them on a drip. This will replenish any lost fluids and prevent further dehydration.
A different method of rehydrating dogs is to inject fluid under their skin to form a "camel-shaped" hump. This fluid gets absorbed over several hours. However, it is less effective than a drip at correcting dehydration and is only appropriate for mild cases.
Oral rehydration solutions can also be used, but they are only beneficial if your pet is still thirsty and able to keep the fluid down. Depending on your pet's symptoms, antibiotics, anti-sickness medications, and pain relief may be required. You should talk about it to your vet for the best results.
It depends on the dog's size, breed, and condition, but even healthy dogs will struggle to go for more than a few days without water. Dogs with health issues, such as kidney disease, are more vulnerable.
Dogs should have access to fresh water throughout the day. They should drink 50 to 60ml of water per kilogram of body weight per day as a general rule.
You can always visit our shop which is amongst the best dog shop in Jaipur. We are also considered a reputed dog seller in Jaipur. You can even buy a dog online in Jaipur at your convenience by the service provided by us.
Aside from keeping our dogs' vaccines up to date and providing them with healthy dog food, you can get them at our dog food shop in Jaipur. They also need exercise, and regular veterinarian examinations, we can't always keep our dogs from getting sick.
Put away items that can be eaten, such as socks and other inedible objects, as well as garbage, such as corn cobs, which can cause blockages, and close all garbage lids. However, understanding the importance of providing our dogs with easy access to fresh water and knowing the signs of dehydration can help us prevent and detect dehydration before it becomes dangerous.
]]>When it comes to finding the best dog food, it's important to choose a product that meets your dog's specific nutritional needs. This will vary depending on factors such as your dog's age, size, breed, and health conditions. Consult with your veterinarian or a pet nutritionist to determine the right balance of nutrients for your dog.
Next, consider the ingredients in the dog food. Look for products that use high-quality, whole ingredients rather than fillers or additives. It's also a good idea to choose a dog food that is made with a variety of protein sources, as this can help to provide a balanced diet.
Another factor to consider is the manufacturing process. Choose a brand that follows strict safety and quality control standards to ensure that the dog food is safe and nutritious.
So which dog food brands should you consider when buying online in India? Some highly rated options on the market include Orijen, Royal Canin, Acana, Pedigree, and Farmina. These brands offer a wide range of formulas to meet the specific needs of different dogs, and they are made with high-quality ingredients and adhere to strict manufacturing standards.

]]>Puppies are fascinating, but they are also time-consuming. If you've never owned a puppy, you may be unaware of what you're about to embark on. It's one thing to be prepared to have a dog, particularly an older dog. Raising a puppy requires an even greater amount of dedication.
Young puppies require three to four meals or snacks each day. They must be put outdoors shortly after eating or drinking for them to excrete properly and become house-trained. While they are being house-trained, puppies will have accidents in the house. This can result in a significant amount of cleanup.
A puppy should not be left alone for longer than a few hours. When left alone, the puppy should be kept in a crate; this assists with house training and prevents the puppy from chewing up everything in your home.
So you've assessed the benefits and drawbacks of puppy ownership and determined that now is the time to welcome a puppy into your home. Congratulations! It's time to go find your new little friend. But where do you start?
First and foremost, pick what type of dog is best for you. Make a list of the characteristics you prefer.
Many individuals have a favorite breed or want to know what to expect as their dog grows up. In a purebred dog, factors such as size and coat type are extremely predictable. Concerns about one's health, temperament, and energy level are partly predicted but not guaranteed.
If you decide to acquire a purebred dog, you must be responsible. Look for a reputable dog shop in Jaipur. Or even better you can buy dogs online in Jaipur. We recommend you stay away from backyard breeders.
You must prepare your house before your little new friend arrives. Make every effort to puppy-proof your home. Look for risks like electrical cables and other potentially harmful home items at puppy eye level. Destructive puppy behavior is typical, aggravating, and sometimes hazardous to your dog. Your dog will undoubtedly discover all the small objects that might harm it.
The greatest approach to keeping your puppy safe is to always keep an eye on it. While you are away, keep your puppy in a kennel (just avoid leaving for more than a few hours when your puppy is still young). A puppy should not be given complete access to the house until it is older and well-trained.
Before you bring home your new puppy, you'll need a lot of dog supplies. Begin with the essentials before accumulating a slew of unnecessary items such as toys your dog will not appreciate or beds your puppy will not sleep in. For starters, you'll need a few things:
Other goods, including grooming supplies and preventative treatments, will be required as your puppy develops.
All pups require extra attention to ensure that they grow up healthy and happy.
Select a nutritious diet designed exclusively for pups.
Begin house training as soon as your dog arrives home. Understand that this might take several weeks or months.
Begin training at home, but start slowly. Be persistent and patient.
Socialize your pet thoroughly. Take your puppy to new areas so that it may encounter new sights, noises, people, and pets. However, only allow your puppy to interact with healthy, vaccinated canines.
Make fitness a part of your routine.
Keep puppy vet visits and vaccinations on track.
Allow for connection and playtime
Set the plan ahead of time if there will be more than one person in your home who will interact with the puppy. When and who is responsible for feeding and walking the puppy? Make sure that all parties agree on where the puppy is allowed to go. Cooperate to ensure that the training is consistent. If you have kids, make sure they know how to act around dogs. If there are other pets in the house, make sure they are properly introduced and are always well-supervised. Still, in confusion, you can make an informed decision by visiting our dog shop in Jaipur. We are among the top dog sellers in Jaipur. Our professionals will guide you through this life-altering process.
]]>It is not an easy or quick task to teach your dog not to bite. During the puppy period, biting is a fully natural activity. During the teething stage, they, like human newborns, frequently gnaw on items. It is critical to teach your dog what can and cannot be chewed. Puppies' teeth are razor-sharp, and dogs frequently don't realise how firmly they're biting.
When pups play with humans, they frequently bite, chew, and mouth on their hands, limbs, and clothing. This type of behaviour may be adorable while your puppy is seven weeks old, but it's not nearly as endearing when he's three or four months old—and growing by the day!
There are several simple methods for teaching your puppy to quit biting and be more polite. You may teach your dog not to bite while encouraging positive behaviour.
All dogs must learn how to regulate the force of a bite. When puppies play, they instinctively nibble at each other. If they bite their mother or littermate too hard, the other dog will usually produce a loud yelp, alerting the youngster. Bite inhibition is often learned by pups when playing with other dogs. Bite inhibition is a dog's capacity to regulate the power with which he bites.
A puppy who has not acquired bite inhibition with humans is unaware of the delicacy of human skin. You may keep your dog engaged with you in difficult circumstances by practising obedience training. Allow your dog to mouth on your hands when playing with him.
If he bites you hard, yell in pain and let your hand go slack. This should shock your dog and prompt him to cease mouthing you for a few seconds. If yelping alone does not work, try a time-out approach. To discourage puppies from chewing and biting on items, some dog owners also apply a bitter spray.
If your puppy pecks you, provide a chew toy as a substitute right away. Dog toys may be used as a training incentive or break, and they keep your fingers away from the puppy's teeth. Teething in puppies is comparable to teething in infants. Keep a dog chew toy nearby at all hours so you can detect biting behaviour and swap the toy for your hand or furniture as necessary.
Puppies will mouth items in their environment as well to people. In addition to puppy-proofing your house, give a variety of fun and safe chew toys for your pooch to play with. Puppy teething toys can be used as a reward for excellent behaviour or as a break activity. Some trainers recommend tug-of-war with your dog.
The puppy discovers that the game is enjoyable, but that it is also handled by you, the human from the other end of the toy. Now buy dog toys online from Dogfather! We have a collection of toys that would help your pooch to get rid of the biting habit.
Positive reinforcement dog training is a training strategy that promotes good conduct rather than penalising bad behaviour. Dogs who have been educated through punishing them are 25 percent more inclined to respond aggressively. One of the most effective ways to teach your pet not to snap or be violent is to keep them calm and use positive reinforcement strategies. This training will especially emphasise praising the dog for good behaviour rather than penalising them for bad behaviour.
Praise and treat your puppy, for example, when they respond to your instruction to halt unwanted biting and when they pick an acceptable teething toy on their own. If your pup is playing well or sitting quietly, give them a soft pat and a treat.
A well-socialised pooch is less likely to be afraid in unfamiliar circumstances, which reduces the possibility of violence. As per studies, dogs that are not properly socialised are more prone to have behavioural issues later in life. If you are unable to attend puppy kindergarten, continue to expose your new puppy to those other dogs in other settings. Dogs that do not have enough human interaction as pups are the most challenging to break free from their phobia of people in later life.
You should take advantage of having your puppy learn from other canines. If you are unable to enrol in a puppy class, ask your well-behaved dog pals or neighbours over for some play dates.
Teaching your dog not to lash out is a lifelong process. You have consistently put in the effort and trained regularly. Every day is important!
So get a cute furry pooch now for yourself and be a proud owner of an adorable puppy. Confused about where to get your desirable friend from? Try us! We are a famous puppy shop in Jaipur. At Dogfather, we are here to get you a friend just like you desire.
]]>You should feed a 2-month-old puppy the same food it was eaten at the breeder, and then gradually transition it to a more appropriate diet over the next 2-3 weeks.
Depending on who you ask, you should feed them three-quarters of a cup of puppy food twice a day. Some experts advise feeding a 2-month-old dog three to four times each day.
What should you feed your Two-Month-Old Puppy?
A new four-legged buddy is an exciting moment for any family, and it's critical to get their feeding and training regimen down pat straight away. It will take some investigation to ensure that your 2-month-old dog obtains the proper quantity of nourishment.
This article will go over some fundamental feeding rules for 2-month-old pups and how you should stick to them for the first year of their lives.
How Do You Introduce Solid Food to a Two-Month-Old Puppy?
Weaning your two-month-old puppy from liquid to solid food will not be accomplished overnight; it normally takes two to three weeks.
First and foremost, choose a high-quality brand of puppy food to which you wish to progress (we would recommend what we consider to be the best food later in the article). Puppies have highly precise nutritional and caloric requirements that can only be met by feeding them high-quality puppy food. Food that is high in calories, calcium, and protein is recommended for 2-month-old pups.
If you successfully introduced solid food to your puppy at approximately 5 to 6 weeks, this transition phase will be considerably easier. If you haven't already, you may simply transition them by making a gruel out of puppy chow and milk and feeding it to them three to four times a day.
You can progressively lower the amount of milk and replace it with additional dog chow every three or four days for the following month. This will help your puppy to comfortably transition to solid dog diets without the danger of stomach problems.
How Often Should a Two-Month-Old Puppy Be Fed?
You should feed your 2-month-old puppy three times each day, following the directions provided by your pet food manufacturer based on your puppy's weight and the amount of food you should feed them.
Feeding a two-month-old puppy smaller meals regularly will make it much simpler for them to digest their food and also provide them with the energy they require without causing many peaks and lows due to irregular feeding. This practice should be repeated until they are 6 months old, at which point you can reduce their feeding to twice a day.
A high-quality dog Food for your 2-month-old puppy
You can find a premium dog food company in our dog shop in Jaipur. Ordering dog food online by employing our services is another optimum way of getting the right dog food. A premium dog food company uses only the best veggies, fruits, and fresh meats. It's high in protein, ranging from 35 to 45%, which is ideal for a 2-month-old puppy.
Reasons to switch to the best dog food which is specifically created for finicky eaters who may have more sensitive stomachs are as follows:
Why Should You Switch to Adult Dog Foods?
Because a growing puppy requires more energy, we want to provide puppy food that is high in calories and high in nutritious supplements.
Larger dogs develop more slowly than smaller dogs, as a general rule. Small dogs weighing less than 30 pounds can develop at 10 to 12 months of age, and some toy breeds can mature even sooner. If you have a medium dog weighing up to 80 pounds, it may take 12 to 16 months for them to develop. If you have a bigger breed, they may not achieve full maturity until they are two.
To avoid gastrointestinal discomfort, you should gradually introduce adult dog food to their puppy mix over 2 to 3 weeks, the same as how you transitioned to puppy food.
The major reason you should go from puppy to adult food is to keep your dog at a healthy weight. The ability to assess your dog's general condition will be useful in determining how much to feed them.
Experts advise you to conduct some studies to determine how to compute your dog's conditioning score. If you have any questions or concerns, you can always go to our dog food shop in Jaipur. Our professionals can point out some basic measures you can take, but we hope we've helped you at least a little in determining what to feed a 2-month-old dog.
]]>A deep connection helps you to better understand each other, allows your dog to cheer you up, allows you to cheer your dog up, and allows your dog to feel comfortable and trust you. According to studies, dogs deliver the same level of comfort as close friends. Dogs have an unrivalled capacity to supply their owners with unending affection and emotional support, particularly during times of extreme stress. They give an arena for fun and play, bringing laughter and lightness into the house to keep you focused on the present rather than worrying about the future.
So here are some pointers for connecting with your dog on a deeper level and improving your relationship with it.
Spend Some Quality Time Together
Spending time together will build your bond because a relationship involves being with each other and sharing experiences. Walking is a simple approach to spending quality time together and building warm fuzzy sentiments for one another. A walk with your dog is a wonderful way to not only discover new places but also to get some much-needed exercise. Rather than rushing him out the door to do his business or to get his 30 minutes of exercise, take your time. Explore more together with your dog. Also, exercise is essential for enhancing your dog's life. Walking, jogging, fetching or tugging, and practising jumping or flyball are all excellent methods to make your dog physically healthy.
Learn More About Their Behaviour
You need to learn more specifically about their stress-related body language and facial emotions. When you recognize the signals that your dog is worried or fearful, it is simpler to protect or rescue your dog from circumstances that make them uncomfortable. If your dog can rely on you to protect them from harm, your bond will improve. Be your dog's protector!
Train Your Dog
Dogs are high achievers. Well-trained puppies are given more freedom. They get extra time off leash if they respond when called. Training also decreases irritation since your dog understands exactly what you want when you ask them to perform something they've been trained to do. Even though your dog is old enough or not particularly faithful to you, you may easily avoid this. If you're not sure where to start, talk to a certified pet trainer. Having more time at home allows you to teach and enhance your dog's behaviour. This not only stimulates your dog's mind, but the effects will remain for the rest of his or her life.
Clear Communication
Misunderstandings and miscommunication are the adversaries of good relationships, so speak with your dog as clearly as possible. Maintain consistency in your training cues. Because dogs acquire visual cues faster than spoken cues, employ the former whenever available. Dogs pay more attention to what you do than what you say, so pay more attention to what you do while communicating with them. When you and your dog have a better knowledge of one other, you will feel closer.
Responsibility
Responsibility is reciprocal. It is your responsibility to learn how to constructively teach your dog so that he knows what you desire. Dogs frequently misbehave because the training was not exercised enough, instructions were unclear, or you anticipated too much from the dog too soon. Throughout the learning process, incentives such as treats and games are used to communicate with the dog. Because your dog is unable to ask you questions, he must learn by trial and error. In the beginning, there will be several rewards. Then it's up to your dog to figure out that he doesn't get a treat for every other cue he gives.
Socialisation
Dogs are excellent social companions. Meeting new individuals and their pets can increase your dog's confidence. Keeping him at home alone might be detrimental to your dog's behaviour. Also, if he is an introvert, avoid introducing new individuals all at once. Introducing your dog to new individuals one at a time can keep him calm and agreeable. Take into account your dog's personality.
Stay Calm Around Your Dog
Everyone in the surrounding area is irritated when you lose your temper, shout, or freak out in any manner. No matter what is going on, radiate calmness so your dog can rely on you to be calm. Dogs, like children, will follow in your footsteps. Avoid displaying nervous behaviour around him. Nervous dogs would be the most aggressive. Stay calm and confident as a leader; be the person you want your dog to be.
This dog is yours for the rest of his life. It might be difficult to appreciate your dog once he has misbehaved. Remind yourself that you love your dog regardless of his actions. He adores you completely.

]]>The best way to fight such a mental phase is for dogs! Dogs provide a variety of benefits to humans, including comfort and support. It is well studied and proven that dogs can help with everything from sadness to depression to aggressiveness as well as other mental health issues. But how does this happen in practice? And do all dogs help us heal, or is it a rare gift to some?
Among various kinds of dogs, therapy dogs are the most patient ones and they are the type one would turn to for care and support when facing phases of depression. Therapy dogs are pets who help you feel better by providing emotional support. They can go to nursing homes, retirement homes, schools, hospice homes, and hospitals. They are taught to be nice and friendly, and they are taught to accept strangers embracing them. Children who tug at their fur or parents who want the younger ones to sit in their laps do not upset them. It's not unusual to see a therapy dog roaming the corridors of a nursing home, cheering up the people.
Therapy dogs are taught to interact with individuals other than their regular handler. It is trained to offer comfort and compassion to clients in hospitals, nursing homes, and hospices as a type of psychological or physiological treatment. A therapy dog, unlike a service animal, does not need to be taught to perform certain activities. Many medical experts have used dogs as a therapeutic resource throughout the last few centuries. Other psychological benefits of having a therapy dog in educational settings include companionship, a distraction from unpleasant thoughts or events, and a reduction in resistance to relationship building in the treatment process.
Feeling depressed? There’s always a dog for it! Buy your pet from the best dog seller in Jaipur – Dogfather.
Here are a few ways in which therapy dogs can help one fight depression.
Most dog owners regard their pets' relationship as unconditional and consequently entirely trustworthy. When such people feel severe depression symptoms like loneliness or sadness, or anxiety symptoms like fear or uneasiness, the dogs provide a soothing form of emotional support. Thus, when compared to other individuals with mental problems, dog owners are much less likely to require emergency clinical help.
Monitoring the stress marker level is a great approach to gaining a clear picture of someone's stress levels. Stroking or being in close touch with a dog lowers blood pressure, which in turn lowers your stress level. Touch and movement are important in stress management. Therapy dogs might also be able to alert you to an impending anxiety attack. Having a pet may boost your happiness and make you feel less alone.
Dogs provide unconditional company to their owners and serve as a reminder that they are not alone. Dogs do not need the depressed person leaving the house or picking up the phone, which together many depressed people are unable to accomplish on their worst days. As you experience joy and friendship in the company of your pet, this might boost your confidence and reduce your depression symptoms. Furthermore, because dogs can detect depression in their owners, many will instantly give comfort in a time of need.
Having a dog also involves participation in activities that promote a healthy lifestyle and help reduce the symptoms of depression. Exercise boosts endorphins, which help battle depression. Schedule consistency can help decrease stress and contribute to healthier sleep habits and general health. Having a dog assures that you will go on walks or play with them. Exercise is beneficial to mental health because it increases blood flow and boosts the generation of feel-good chemicals in the brain. Having a therapy dog might encourage you to go out and enjoy the fresh air, as well as improve your attitude.
Socialisation with others, primarily face-to-face, has been found to alleviate depressive symptoms. This is particularly true for adults over the age of 50. Caring for an animal offers you a sense of purpose, leaves you feeling loved, and diverts your attention away from your despair. Dogs, according to health specialists, give excellent companionship and companionship. Dogs provide an excuse to meet new people on walks or even at the dog park, which can help ease the loneliness that can accompany a depressed phase.
Most people would prefer a puppy to a young dog, but it's crucial to recognize the importance of bringing a puppy home at the proper age. Because of this yearning for younger puppies, puppy mills thrive. When the puppies reach the age of 30 days, they are removed, causing the female dog to stop producing milk and reducing the amount of care necessary for both the mother and the puppies. Puppy mills usually keep puppies in tight places at close quarters, increasing their risk of illness. Feeding a 35-day-old puppy is quite challenging since they are still unable to chew or digest solid food entirely. Many new pet parents make the mistake of offering solid food to young puppies. Dogs, just like human babies, start to eat food only after a certain period. Also, if you want to take proper care of your doggie, you must give them only the best quality food. For example, Dogfather is a good puppy shop in Jaipur. It provides you with all the necessary equipment for your dog.
Thus it is important to know the right age to get a puppy. There are several points of view, as well as several circumstances, that impact the answer to this topic.
Puppies must spend at least 60 days with their moms. Antibodies contained in mother's milk, like those found in humans, keep newborn puppies safe and secure against a range of illnesses, as well as strengthen their immunity. Puppies can also start eating solid food around two months, making the transition from the breeder to the house much easier. If you are looking for some healthy, cute puppies, Dogfather is the best dog shop in Jaipur.
Most people believe that the greatest time to get a dog as a puppy is somewhere between 8 and 12 weeks of age, and it’s true. Puppies learn a lot from their moms, so make the most of their time with them before you take over! During this critical phase, puppies must learn the fundamentals of toilet training, receive adequate socialising, and bond with you in their new puppy home. You don't want to separate a puppy from its mother too soon since this might have a detrimental impact on the dog's health, emotional condition, and happiness.
Adopting a new puppy, like any other age group, has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Here are some things to consider if you're thinking about getting a new puppy.
Puppies' socialisation stage normally lasts between 6 and 12 to 14 weeks of age. They are learning the rules of the world around them at this age. Puppy socialising at this phase has a significant impact on the dog's habits, confidence, and bonds throughout his life. They acquire dominance and submissive skills as well as fundamental communication abilities at the same time. A badly socialised dog is more likely to be afraid and has problems settling in with other dogs or people. It's also the stage when the puppy will build a deep attachment with the people who will be caring for him. If pups do not get the opportunity to begin socialising at these times, the chances of the canines ever being properly socialised are poor.
Puppies pick up valuable skills from their littermates. Puppies that are taken from their litter too soon are more prone to have behaviour and temperament issues as they mature. They may begin to exhibit dominating or submissive tendencies, which can lead to issues later in life. Puppies learn acceptable play habits as well as how to interact with and relate to other canines from their mother and littermates. They also acquire basic impulse control and biting inhibition through their siblings and mother's feedback.
Adopting a puppy under the age of two months is not advised. In addition to substantially impeding socialisation, it disrupts the critical periods of breastfeeding and weaning for their physical health. If a dog is adopted too young, he or she may not recognise other canines, animals, or humans. This can result in a dog causing injury, even if they feel they are merely playing.
So, there are many reasons that pups should be adopted only after a certain period. Some states even have rules requiring pups to be at least 8 weeks old before they may be sold to the public. Approximately 15 of the 28 states make it illegal for anybody to sell an underage puppy.

Pet owners almost always have to deal with fleas and ticks, some pet owners and their pets are menaced by this problem year round. These parasites are not just a nuisance for pets and their owners they also pose a formidable threat to the health and well being of dogs and cats. There are no vaccines for most of the diseases transmitted by ticks and flea, furthermore pets infected with ticks and flea can infect other pets, a pet owners home and in some instances even pet owners themselves.
Ticks & fleas can be dangerous for pets
Ticks and fleas are known to carry diseases which can make your pets seriously ill, illnesses that at times may prove fatal. In countries with a tropical climate the problem is even greater, particularly in tropical summers where parasites thrive. The common problems caused by ticks and fleas include flea allergy dermatitis, tapeworms, Canine Babesiosis, canine Ehrlichiosis, Murine Typhus, mycoplasma haemofelis, Lyme disease and cat scratch disease to name a few.
Ticks and fleas can consume fifteen times their own body weight of your pets blood, puppies and kittens are particularly vulnerable to anemia — a significant drop in red blood cells — on account of fleas and ticks. Adult cats and dogs also run a risk of anemia albeit to a lesser extent.
Hazards posed by ticks and fleas to other pets
For pet owners having more than one pet tick and flea prevention is a matter of even greater concern. Not only do ticks and fleas pose a threat to other pets as they can quickly infect other pets and animals, they may also serve as vectors for the transmission of numerous diseases between animals.
Hazards posed by ticks and flea to humans
While the warm fur coat of your pet provides the ideal environment for fleas and ticks to thrive it does not mean that humans are offered any measure of safety from these blood-thirsty parasites. Ticks and fleas like human blood too. Ticks and fleas can make the jump from your pet’s fur and bedding on to you. Flea bites in humans can cause intense itching, skin infections and on occasions allergic reactions in some people.
Hazards posed by ticks and fleas to homes
Fleas and ticks do not only find the warm fur of your pets comfortable they also use it to reproduce. These parasites lay their eggs on your pet, which has access to all parts of your house. When these eggs fall of from your pet on beddings, furniture, carpets and curtains they hatch as all of these are ideal places for these eggs to hatch. These young parasites will in turn feed on your pets and sometimes your blood and lay more eggs. The problem simply keeps on getting bigger and bigger if corrective measures are not taken on time.
Tick prevention medications
Flea and tick preventative medicines have been around for a long time and how effective they are has been debatable ever since. The one thing which certainly holds true is that they have come a long way, getting better and better over the years.
Tick and flea medications come in three forms, medicated flea and tick collars, topical medications and oral Flea and tick pills for dogs and Flea and tick pills for cats.
Oral vs. topical treatments
Pet parents are often confronted with a dilemma - Which is better oral or topical flea and tick solutions. Medicated tick and flea collars and topical medications use insecticides that repel insects and force fleas and ticks to leave your pets body before they have an opportunity to bite and cling on to your pets.
Oral treatments on the other work differently, they contain substances that are harmless to mammals including cats, dogs and humans but fatal for insects like ticks and fleas. When your pet is given oral medications the active ingredients are absorbed into its blood stream and subsequently transferred to tissue fluids under their skin. When ticks and fleas bite your pets the active ingredients are transferred to the parasites which then die as the substances are toxic for them.
Benefits of oral tick and flea medications
Topical treatments do not kill ticks and fleas and merely repel them off, as such the medications have a limit to how long they can hold off parasites, the effect of these medications also wear of quickly with time and one they have tapered down they are not able to repel ticks and fleas anymore.
Oral Medications kill ticks and fleas hence are more effective in keeping these parasites at bay for longer durations. Oral medications will not only kill of the ticks and fleas present on your pet; the ingredients remain active even when the eggs laid by ticks and fleas hatch killing of the next generation of parasites. The manner in which oral tick and flea preventatives work ensures protection against future infestations as well which are generally not offered by topical treatments and collars.
As mentioned earlier oral tick and flea medications have been around for some time and a lot of work has gone into their development and research. When it was discovered that ticks and fleas have become resilient to the active ingredients present in older classes of oral medications, intensive research was undertaken to tackle the problem.
The newer classes of oral medication for ticks and fleas have been getting better with time; with each new formula, breaking new ground in terms of improving safety for the pets and at the same time being more effective against ticks and fleas.
Oral tick and flea medication do not have any effect on other pets, children or pet owners themselves. The same does not hold true with topical treatments.
Safety protocols for tick and flea medications
Pet owners must remember that oral treatments are medications, while the active ingredients in them are dangerous for insects but safe for mammals, they may still produce side effects. There are no one size fits all solutions. Oral medications that would work for one dog or puppy may not work for another as there are several factors that need to be taken into account. It is best to visit your veterinarian before starting these treatments for your pets.
Pet parents of puppies, exotic breeds and pets with pre-existing health conditions are required to practice greater due diligence before starting these treatments. If your pets have a history of seizures, gastrointestinal issues and kidney conditions it is best to stick to topical treatments unless recommended by a vet. Like oral treatments, topical medications too have come a long way and if used properly will yield satisfactory results.
Oral tick and flea medications checklist
As mentioned earlier, when it come to oral tick and flea medications there is no one-size-fits-all solutions. Different ingredients in different products react differently with individual pets. It is therefore essential for pet parents to practice due diligence, conduct thorough research and definitely consult a veterinarian before initiating the medications. Some important questions that pet parents must ask themselves and experts include:
Bravecto and Simparica
Bravecto and Simparica are the two most popular chewable tick and flea medications for pets. Bravecto is a good choice for breeds with thick coats. Once administered it begins to kill fleas and ticks in just 2 hours and is good for 12 weeks of protection against ticks and fleas.
Simparica is another good option for dogs of eight weeks age or older, once administered it starts killing fleas within 3 hours and ticks begin to die 8 hours after administration. Simparica provides 35 days of protection against ticks and fleas.
]]>Pet Food History
Pet food was not very prevalent in the early part of the 20th century. Up until the 1960s dogs and cats were fed table scraps, leftover food, animal parts that humans did not consume. Some canned foods were available but were not very popular. Then came what is known as kibbles (Dry food pellets made from ground up ingredients containing meats, grain and other edibles) which were made for pets, were easy to store and use. This dry pet food suddenly made keeping and feeding pets far easier; more and more people started adopting pets resulting in the booming pet care industry we see today.
What we did not know then
In the early days of pet food introduction, there were no rules governing what ingredients and nutrients that went into pet food. Made from leftover meat and grains like wheat and corn which were used as binders and fillers these products were not safe for human consumption. The concept of balanced diets for pets was little known and not much attention was paid to the nutritional requirements of pets.
Matters were worse for pet owners whose dogs and cats were allergic, with no alternates these owners were forced to feed their special needs pets with home-cooked meat and rice combinations. In the 1980s when rampant reports of cats dying of dilated cardiomyopathy on account of shortcomings in packaged pet food did researchers understand the requirement of balanced diets for pets. It then became known that food devoid of all the necessary nutrients vitamins, proteins carbs and amino acids could have unpleasant consequences for pets.
How it was fixed
Armed with better knowledge thanks to loving cats dying literarily, from a “broken heart”, pet food companies invested in fixing the problem resulting in healthier more nutritional pet foods that are available today on store shelves worldwide.
What is grain-free pet food?
In order to understand grain-free dog foods, one must look at the common ingredients used to make regular dog food. Regular pet food comprises primarily of a protein source, mostly in the form of some meat like chicken, beef, turkey, fish etc. and secondarily of a carbohydrate source. It is the carbohydrates that are generally obtained from grains. Common grains in pet foods include wheat, soy, corn, barley, rye, oat, rice and millets.
The grains in dog food became the source of contention. Some people believed that grains were included as a cost-saving measure to act as binders and fillers. The truth, however, is that grains are a ready source of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates in the form of macronutrients provide the much-needed calories and energy to fuel daily activities in pets and maintain optimum body function.
Carbohydrates also contain fibres that are necessary for digestive health in pets. While wolves — ancestors to modern dogs — and feral cats did not generally consume carbohydrates, domesticated dogs and cats have undergone thousands of years of evolution and gene modifications and can now consume at least some carbohydrates. Cats need between 2% – 5% carbohydrates in their food while dogs typically require 12% to 15% carbohydrates in their food.
In the early days of the dog food industry; some dogs and cats showed allergic reactions to certain ingredients in pet foods. Owners of such pets were forced to exclude regular pet food and resort to home-cooked meals for their pets. At this point a new set of pet food makers arrived on the scene, these were small independent pet food makers and BEG (Boutique Exotic Grain-free) pet food companies that introduced grain-free pet foods.
The BEG industry soon grew to include not only grain-free dog food but also grain-free cat food, grain-free puppy food, grain-free kitten food and was soon followed by gluten-free dog food and gluten-free cat food. While grain-free pet foods are devoid of grains they still substitute with other sources of carbohydrates like lentils, peas, potatoes and sweet potatoes.
Is grain-free dog food better than regular dog food?
While BEG introduced grain-free pet food for pets that displayed an allergic reaction to grains, they were quickly associated with better, healthier pet food. BEG pet food makers did use better quality ingredients and that helped with the perception. Grain-free pet food gained further traction after reports of melamine contamination and subsequent recall of some pet foods in the year 2007. Grain-free pet food also gained popularity as more pet owners became aware of gluten intolerance in cats and dogs. This does not make grain-free necessarily better than regular pet food and it finally boils down to which type of pet food your pet prefers or in some instances does not show problems with.
Pet food and gluten
We have all heard of gluten intolerance in humans; surprisingly gluten intolerance and at times gluten allergy — a different condition — is also a problem with some dogs and in rarer instances, with cats too. Gluten is a family of proteins found in grains like wheat, barley, rye, oats etc. with wheat being the most common source of gluten.
Pets with gluten intolerance will suffer from various symptoms on account of their immunes system viewing the protein as a harmful substance and acting quickly to eliminate it from the body. Dogs that are gluten intolerant will show symptoms very soon after consuming food with gluten. Common symptoms include diarrhoea, weight loss, hair loss and may develop rashes and itchiness. Gluten intolerant and gluten allergic cats will show similar symptoms like diarrhoea, weight loss, feline asthma, vomiting, hair loss and may also develop rashes and itchiness
The use of grains like wheat by common pet food brands renders them unsuitable for pets with gluten intolerance or gluten allergy and grain-free pet food is the way to go in such instances.
Pet food and heart disease
DCM or dilated cardiomyopathy is a heart condition that occurs due to the lack of an amino acid named taurine. It turns out that humans, cats and dogs do not produce taurine in their bodies naturally and have to obtain it from their food. This was accidentally discovered in the 1980s when a bunch of cats died on account of DCM. Some time ago a claim was made by researchers that certain ingredients in grain-free pet foods inhibited taurine absorption, hence leading to DCM, this claim created quite a stir among pet owners. Subsequent research, however, has since disproved this claim establishing no direct link between grain-free pet foods and taurine absorption or DCM.
Does your pet need grain-free pet food?
While the debate regarding grain-free and grain inclusive pet food will continue the decision finally boils down to what your pet prefers. It is recommended to continue feeding whatever food you have been feeding your pet if your pet is comfortable and shows no signs of food-related ailments. Just make sure that the foods you are giving to your pets are ideal. The ideal pet food should have all the necessary nutrients like proteins, vitamins, fats and amino acids in the recommended proportions.
Grain-free pet foods were created out of necessity as some pets were allergic to the ingredients in regular pet food. If your pet does not have any allergies it is not necessary to make the switch to grain-free pet food. If you feel that your pet needs to shift to a grain-free pet food it is advisable to consult with your veterinarian first. The same is true if your pet is on a grain-free diet and you feel the need to introduce gains.
Whether you decide on grain-free or grain inclusive pet food it is prudent that you check all information, reviews and recommendations about brands of pet food you select and consumer reviews the particular type of food provided by them. Make sure they have all the right approvals from various authorities and credible veterinarian associations and research organisations.
The bottom line
It is encouraging to see that off late pet parents are better aware of the nutritional needs of their pets and pay special attention to healthy pet diets. Nutrition, after all, is the most important factor in the health and wellbeing of pets and should be accorded the necessary priority.
The pet food market is growing rapidly, and with new research and growing scientific knowledge and awareness; better, higher quality pet food with better, more wholesome ingredients are more accessible now than ever before. This makes it easier for us to select better options for our pets. Our pets are ultimately reliant on us to make the best dietary choices for them and a sincere effort in that department is the least we could do for them.

]]>Summer heat hazards for stray animals
The onset of summer and the marked increase in temperature is often accompanied by the news of birds falling out of trees. Visible site of street dogs and street cats either finding refuge, seeking water or just wretched in the heat is common. Not only are our urban centres hotter than ever before they also provide scant spaces for street animals to hide from the merciless summer sun. While we have fans, air conditioners and roofs over our heads street animals bereft of these amenities are at our mercy and kindness. Heatstroke, dehydration, heat exhaustion and other heat-related injuries are real problems faced by street animals in the hotter months.
1.Water is essential
Finding a puddle of water to drink is incredibly tough for street animals in our urban settings. You can help by placing water bowls for strays. Large bowls made of terracotta are best suited for this purpose. Terracotta bowls tend to keep the water cooler for longer.
If there is more than one pack of stray dogs in the vicinity try and keep separate water bowls for each pack. Stray dogs fight over territory and a water bowl kept in the territory of one pack would not be accessible to dogs from another pack. Smaller bowls can be kept perched on boundary walls and higher ground for stray cats and birds to use. Water in these bowls must be changed frequently – at least twice daily.
2.Makeshift summer shelters
Animals will instinctively look for shade to escape the heat, particularly during mid-day hours. A simple summer shelter for stray dogs can be built using discarded materials like cardboard and old clothes. These makeshift shelters will give animals a place to rest in the hottest part of the day. Shelters also ensure that stray animals don’t seek shelter under cars and other undesirable places. Do keep in mind that the shelters are placed in cool shaded areas and are roomy enough to allow for good ventilation. A stray cat shelter should be made on higher ground.
3.Charred paws and heat injuries
Asphalt, stone and other such surfaces that make up all our roads and pavements get excruciatingly hot. We, humans, have shoes and slippers to protect our feet but our furry friends don’t have the same options. It is advisable to check the paws of stray dogs for signs of burns and other injuries. Any small wound can get quickly infected in the heat. Apply suitable ointments and medication in case of burns and other injuries.
Flea’s ticks and other parasites are more active during the hotter months; you can keep some ointments and flea resistant powder for the same. Asking a vet to visit the strays in your locality every once in a while is also recommended.
4.Pay attention and be mindful
In your day to day activities whether you are travelling to your office and back, going for an evening walk or simply hanging out with buddies pay attention to the stray cats and dogs around you. You are not required to do much. In case you see an animal in distress you simply have to call rescue centres or animal lover groups in your vicinity. If you see a stray animal that is panting excessively is lethargic, having trouble breathing, drooling excessively or not eating then you must help. These are signs of heat exhaustion and dehydration.
5.Check your car
The incessant heat and lack of shaded places may force animals to seek shelter under parked cars. Animals don’t always understand when a vehicle is about to move. Dogs and cats suffering from heat exhaustion or dehydration may be too weak to move out of the way. It is a good idea to check under your car before you open the door.
6.Bird food and water baths
Besides cats and dogs, urban birds like pigeons, sparrows, crows and kites also suffer from the sweltering heat. You can invest in a birdbath that will help them not only with water to drink but also a way to cool. Click here to learn more about birdbaths and how to use them. Providing grains for birds is also a good idea. You can invest in containers made specifically for feeding birds and hang them in gardens or balconies.
7.Fruity treats
The discomfort caused by extreme heat may discourage stray animals from eating properly. Cucumber, musk melon and watermelons are examples of some of the fruits that stray animals can consume. Feeding stray dogs and cats with these summer fruits is helpful as are not only nutritious but also help keep them hydrated while being light and easy to digest.
8.Talk to owners of working animals
Donkeys, horses and bullocks may be beasts of burden but the heat does get to them as well. If you have the opportunity to speak to such animal owners, make sure to gently and politely explain to them the necessity of caring for their animals in the summer. You can share with them all the things you have learned here. Explain to them that they should avoid making animals work in the afternoons and if possible reduce the number of hours that they need to work.
9.Plant more trees
Rapid urbanisation and the felling of trees is a major cause of extreme heat that we experience in our cities today. Trees provide necessary shade from the relentless summer sun and also a place for birds and tree-dwelling animals to rest. Trees are also helpful to keep out neighbourhoods cooler. You can initiate planting trees in available spaces around your homes. Furthermore, you can grow saplings on your balcony and provide volunteers with healthy good size trees during plantation drives.
The bottom line
Whatever may be our opinion of stray animals the summer heat does not care, it will unleash discomfort and suffering on all of us. If for nothing else than just out of compassion be mindful of the suffering of strays. Provide for water, do try and make summer shelters and do watch out for suffering animals to help. It will make you feel better at the end of a hard day.
]]>Besides our fantastic evolutionary adaptations including the ability to sweat, we humans can still find a hot day too hard to bear. Our pet animals do not have similarly efficient temperature moderation systems as ours and rely on different approaches to beat the heat. Cats and dogs rely on sweating and moisture release through their paws and panting.
Panting and releasing heat through paws while efficient is not always enough for our pets in summer. Animals with flat faces like bulldogs and exotic Persian Cats find it more difficult to release heat through panting because of small faces that offer a limited surface area for heat exchange. Special care should be taken for animals that are overweight, of advanced age or suffering from diseases of the kidneys and lungs.
Cats and dogs do like the sun, but the summer sun can cause heatstroke and dehydration. Keep your pets in the shade as much as possible especially during mid-day. Pets get a lot thirstier in the summer months make sure that clean and cool water is available for them. Water warms up quickly so make sure to change the water in their bowls frequently. Increasing the frequency of wet food for dogs and cats during summer is recommended as it will provide additional protection from dehydration.
Dogs and cats have a similar range of normal body temperature, for dogs, it is between 38°C – 39.2°C and for cats, it is 37.2°C – 39.2°C. When your cat or dog’s body temperature rises there would be visible symptoms. Heavy panting is the most noticeable sign of overheating. In case of doubt check the gums, bright red and dry gums are another visible sign of excess heat. Apart from these if you notice thick drool, diarrhoea and vomiting during summer; a visit to the vet is highly recommended.
Not all dogs and cats like to swim so it is not advisable to force your pet into the pool. If your pet enjoys swimming never leave your pet unattended in the pool. Dogs and cats don’t necessarily know how to exit a pool and are not adept at finding or using swimming pool ladders.
Another factor to consider is that the normal body temperature of your pet is different from your body temperature and pets are prone to hypothermia when in the water. Dilated pupils, slow respiration and shivering are common symptoms of hypothermia in pets. Wrap your pet in a blanket and visit the vet at the earliest in case of hypothermia symptoms.
Do not allow your pet in a hot water tub as they can overheat; water temperature that is comfortable for us is generally too hot for pets. If you are taking your pet to the beach or a lake you should have a life jacket for them. After water activities on the beach or pool, it is essential to bathe your pets to remove sand, chlorine and other residues. Make sure to pat them dry as leaving their fur wet is hazardous especially in summer.
While it is essential to treat pets for parasites regularly it gets even more critical during summer. Fleas, ticks and other parasites display increased activity in the hotter months and treatment for these is one of the most essential summer tips for pet owners. Parasites can cause anaemia and be carriers for diseases like Bartonella and Lyme disease. Parasites like fleas and ticks also carry with them other parasites like tapeworms and heartworms.
Our pets enjoy strolling and open-air playtime but the summer sun can be a bad boy. Changing the time and schedule for taking pets outside is highly recommended, mid-day outings should be avoided as much as possible. Take your pets out in the earlier parts of the morning or late evenings, night time walks are not a bad idea. Surfaces like asphalt can get very hot and potentially hurt the sensitive paw pads of your furry friend. One tip is to touch the ground with the palm of your hand, if it is very hot you should consider another time for a stroll.
The fur coats of animals keep them safe from the cold and are extremely useful to regulate body temperature in the hotter months. Dogs and cats have developed these coats over millions of years of evolution to protect them year-round in all weather conditions. Shaving that coat might sound like a good way to keep them cool but it will take away the natural protection provided to them by evolution.
It might sound strange but sunscreens for pets are available. If your pet has a very thin fur coat with short fine hair or has very light coloured fur it may not provide adequate protection from the sun. Consult your vet and ask if your pet needs to use sunscreen, veterinarian can also guide you on the type of sunscreen to use and how to use it.
This is the one tip that is constantly repeated in almost all pet care related blogs and forums. It is a bad idea to leave your pet in the car in any season and extremely dangerous in the summer months. Dogs and cats left in the care will rapidly overheat and suffer a heat stroke within minutes, parking in the shade and leaving windows open isn’t very useful either.
The bottom line
We have mostly covered safety tips for dogs and cats but some of the same approaches should work with most pets including other mammals, birds and reptiles. Suggestions like providing shade, ample water and regulating outside playtime apply to most animals. People that have kept exotic pets should refer to specific blogs and forums for more information to protect pets in summer heat.
Animals suffering from heat exhaustion would display any one or more of these symptoms:
These symptoms are not to be taken lightly in the hotter months.

]]>Getting your dog grooming supplies is one of the most important duties you as a dog parent must fulfil.
Below is a list of essential items for new dog owners that you must go through if you want to make your dog not only look but also feel and smell good.
We humans are all aware of that feeling when our hair is tangled and we try to detangle the knots, it hurts way too much. Brushing out the knots is a painful task. Our dogs do not feel any different when we use a normal human comb on them. They have long and voluminous hair and our combs are hardly a good fit.
Therefore, one of the most necessary dog grooming supplies is the grooming comb. Bonus points if you can also get a bristle brush. The ultimate goal of a brush is to leave your dog feeling fresh and fluffy and not scratch his body. The combs come with two different sides, one side with bristles wide apart and the other side with bristles closely packed. These combs are small enough to carry in your pockets and are made of surgical steel. They are extremely durable and will last a dog’s entire lifetime. The type of comb you need depends on your dog's coat and fur. You have to buy combs keeping in mind whether your dog is single- or double-coated.
Like most of us, dogs too get uncomfortable with long nails. In order to get rid of them, they end up scratching out your furniture. It irritates them mentally and can often lead to physical injury. So, one of the things every dog owner should have is nail clippers. Clippers come in various types- scissors, guillotine and grinder-tools. The kind of nail clipper you need often depends on the breed and size of your dog. For example, scissors are used to trim nails of smaller breeds. For bigger breeds, grinder tools are necessary for nail clipping. Make sure that you get your dog accustomed to nail clipping from an early age, since abruptly clipping his nails can make him anxious. Hold your dog’s paw gently every time you cut his nails. Also follow a schedule, like every week or two weeks.
Even if you are steady with your hands, injuries are possible especially because dogs rarely sit still while in a grooming session. Keep a first-aid kit handy, for example, every time you are about to clip your dog’s nails. There is a chance that you might hurt your dog’s paw while clipping his nails,
You should always keep a jar of styptic powder as part of your essential dog grooming supplies. This will help deal with minor injuries that often happen when you are trying to groom your dog. All you have to do is cover the bleeding spot with the powder. This will help the blood clot only in a few minutes.
All dog owners know that your dog’s ears are one of those parts which are the most prone to getting dirty. Dogs are prone to getting mites in their ears. There is also the higher chance of ear wax building up over time. Not only will this cause bad odour and make it difficult for you to share the same room, it will also lead to health problems. Therefore, a natural ear solution is one of those must-have items in your dog grooming tool box. All you have to do is pour a few drops of the solution onto the ear and wipe the extra liquid with a towel.
Do not attempt to use human’s shampoo on your dog. It could lead to a disastrous impact, not the least of which is the increased shedding of fur. A dog-friendly shampoo is another essential item for your dog grooming tool kit. They often have a formula similar to a shampoo for babies. But they certainly have other chemicals in them which help to clean off the fleas. Fleas often accumulate easier if your dog likes to play outside more. A dog shampoo will get rid of these fleas and also clean his fur, making it super smooth and shiny. Dog shampoos, much like baby shampoos, are made to protect their eyes since you will be washing their face. The ideal dog shampoo must have a soothing effect on your dog. Consult your vet for the best recommendations.
Get your dog the best grooming options with high levels of comfortability and quality, all available for a very low price at Dogfather.
]]>Feeding kittens is not an easy task, as they tend to be hungry for most part of the day but that does not mean they should be fed that often.
Here are 10 tips for feeding kittens that you must follow if you want your pet to grow up with good health from the experts of Dogfather:
Kittens tend to be hungrier than their older counterparts. But without a fixed schedule, your kitten will become overweight and gradually unhealthy.
Less than 4 WEEKS: 8 cc of formula per ounce of body weight, every 4 hours
5 WEEKS: 13–16 cc of formula every 8 hours (give her access to gruel)
2-3 MONTHS: 1/4 can wet kitten food 4 times a day
4-6 MONTHS: 1/4 can wet kitten food 3 times a day
7-12 MONTHS: 1/4 can wet adult cat food 2 times a day
Before 8 weeks, the kitten needs to feed from its mother to develop a naturally healthy immune system. Feeding kittens younger than 8 weeks needs additional measures. You should feed her kitten formula every 4 hours. The quantity must be 8cc per ounce of body weight.
Gruel is made by mixing kitten formula and wet food. You can leave this gruel (only one half-can) out in a dish for your kitten to come back to whenever she wants. The gruel must be accompanied with formula as usual.
5 years is the stage at which you can replace your gruel in your kitten’s diet with solid food. The feeding schedule remains the same, which is at every 4-hour interval. Dry food must be kept to a minimum. The next tip will tell you why.
Addiction to dry food is the worst thing to happen to any kitten. Kibble can damage kidney function in your pet by causing dehydration. The way to transition from dry food to a raw diet is necessary, especially if your cat turns up her nose at raw food. Start with lessening the number of meals per day. Leave out the meal two times a day. In the initial stage, do not add the raw food all at once. Make the transition slow, since your kitten needs time to adjust to the new scent. You can also use canned food to help your kitten with the transition.
Adult cat food, dog food, or people food- these can upset your kitten’s stomach. These foods provide different nutrients which are specific to the species they are made for.
If you are wondering, ‘Can my kitten eat normal cat food?’ the answer is NO. We do not feed human babies adult food. Similarly, kittens have a specific demand for nutrients which are unavailable in normal cat food.
It can be either tap or filtered water, but the water has to be room temperature. When the kitten was younger, the gruel gave her all the hydration she needed. But as she starts feeding on solid food, her water intake needs to be increased.
Healthy kittens love to eat, so if your cat is unresponsive to food, call your vet immediately. The primary years of a kitten’s life can be difficult for her fragile immune system, so illness is easily possible. Do not ignore the sign if she stops feeding.
Kittens are sensitive about the smell of their meals, and they will most likely reject the food if it has been out for over 3 hours. Switch the food bowl as often as your kitten requires.
]]>Heatstroke in dogs is a fairly common phenomenon. Although some dogs are acclimatized to summer temperatures, none of them are exempt from the dangers of rising heat. Since dogs do not sweat, but they pant, it is not possible to cool themselves off when the temperature rises above 100F.
Hyperthermia in dogs is caused when their body temperature increases beyond 103F. Beyond that, their bodies are unable to self-regulate. However, there are several ways in which you as a dog parent can ensure that your dog does not reach this tipping point.
In this article, we will tell you about 10 effective ways in which you can prevent overheating in dogs. Read on to find out how you can give your dogs a more comfortable lifestyle in the soaring temperatures of summer.
Symptoms of heatstroke in dogs are not difficult to spot, but you need to be attentive in order to alleviate them. Fortunately, there are ways in which you can prevent dog overheating.
Dogs with poor physical condition are at the maximum risk of suffering from overheating. These conditions can include old age, heart diseases, obesity, and respiratory difficulties. Instead of ignoring your dog’s health, you can give her a balanced nutrition which is going to keep her body strong even in there are underlying conditions.
Dogfather products can help you immensely in maintaining your dog’s health. The shipping charges are free if your cart amount exceeds INR1000.
Dogs depend on evaporation to bring down their temperature when they are panting. When they are outside, the humidity is higher making the evaporation much slower. This will lead to your dog needing more time to cool down. Therefore, you need to monitor the time that she plays outside and restrict it. Being outdoors can get your dog to experience a heatstroke faster than you suspect.
Moreover, you need to be careful not to leave your dog outside in the heat. Often, we let them play and forget about them while we are engrossed in our own work. This can prove hazardous and might be life-threatening for your dog if she is exposed to the heat unchecked.
Since there is no way to prevent your dog entirely from stepping outside and letting her enjoy the fresh air, what you can do is walk her when the sun is rising or when it is setting. The air tends to be cooler and it will be easier for both of you to stay outdoors for a while.
Your dog’s fur coat is important because it not only keeps her warm in winters but also helps regulate her body temperature in summer. How? By preventing sunburns, for instance, since it acts as an insulator and keeps the heat away.
It is illegal in some countries to leave your dogs in the car, since the temperature in the car soars higher than the outside temperature. If you ever make the mistake of leaving your pooch in the car during summer, a heatstroke is inevitable. Leaving your dog in the car might also cause accidents.
Most breeds thrive in an air-conditioned atmosphere. However, if your living area is not air-conditioned, you can invest in an in-window AC unit for your dog. If even that is too expensive, get her a portable fan. Many portable fans in the market are dog-friendly and, even though they cannot replace an AC, they will give your dog some relief.
This kind of vest is basically a harness which provides your dog external cooling. Cooling vests are more popular among working dogs (such as dogs in the police force) who have to spend long hours outside, and senior and obese dogs.
We humans can think of nothing better than a cold swim to dip in as soon as summer arrives. For those of us who have a swimming pool in our homes, our dogs can jump in whenever they want to. But for others, there is the option to get a swimming pool for your dog in your courtyard.
Dogs are unlike humans in this regard. We both crave icy snacks when the heat is threatening us. Icy treats can help your dog cool down faster. If your dog does not like normal ice cubes, you can try flavored ones by adding fruit juice.
Some breeds, especially the ones with a short muzzle, find it tougher to deal with hot temperatures. They are more prone to developing a heatstroke due to respiratory problems.
The signs of heatstroke in dogs are as follows:
The signs of heatstroke in dogs will not go unnoticed if you care enough for your dog. If despite these precautions your dog suffers from a heatstroke, immediately bring her indoors and put her in a cool atmosphere (like AC or cold water). To avoid bloating, point the fan away from the dog.
